Competitive exams in India

by Amrudesh Santhanam

Every exam is competitive but when students compete for entrance to a college / university or when candidates compete to get a coveted job, the stakes go high. I did a quick survey of the competitive exams in India. I have to say that this is not an exhaustive list but still, its real long... I have tried to put them, or at least most of them into this cloud image below. I use a cloud because we at Edoola hope to bring all of this to the cloud, the internet space where one can prepare for it Online. Of course, many exams are going online and this trend is only expected to get faster as technology access spreads and the benefits of holding a test online become apparent to all agencies, whether colleges or government bodies.

In the image given above, I have clubbed many exams into categories; for example, TNPSC, KPSC, UPSC etc are combined into Public Service Commision exams, NDA, CDS etc also combined.

What do they test:

Predominantly, I see that most of these exams test the following skills and rightly so.
Psychometric tests are one other set but most of the above mentioned exams do not test this; understandably so because that is a little more detailed process. The defense services though have such tests done during an Interview.
